In 1978, a concerned group of interfaith community members organized to create a shelter in Arlington that would serve those who were homeless or fleeing domestic violence. The Arlington Community Temporary Shelter (TACTS), now known as Doorways for Women and Families began.

Over the years, Doorways has benefited from the support of thousands of volunteers. Individuals, corporate employees as well as civic, faith and youth groups all provide invaluable assistance in spreading awareness about homelessness and domestic violence, supporting and caring for families in a time of crisis, holding collection drives, or providing administrative support.

In 2005 Doorways embarked on $7.2 million Campaign to Do More to expand services and rebuild the Emergency Shelter. The campaign was successfully completed and the new Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home now serves up to 21 individuals at a time.

Each year, Doorways receive support through its special events like the Crate & Barrel Holiday Shopping Event and our Annual Benefit Auction, as well as many third party fundraisers held on our behalf. These events not only raise funds to support our work, but also help spread awareness about homelessness and domestic violence.

On behalf of the thousands of women, children and families that Doorways has helped move from crisis to stability, we thank all of our donors, volunteers and supporters over the last 30 years. We look forward to the next 30 years of serving out community with you!
